Coping With Stress

If you are living with large amounts of stress, you are putting yourself at high risk for a multitude of health problems. We all experience stress in our lives. Unfortunately some of us have to deal with a lot more if it than others. There are ways of handling and coping with stress.

One way of coping with stress is to avoid things we know will bring more stress to us. Learn that is ok to say no. If your plate is full then its ok to say you just can’t do it. Also avoid people who bring stress to your life. Take control of your life and environment. If you know something will cause you stress than don’t do it. Another way of coping with stress is to alter certain situations in your life. Talk about something when it happens, don’t keep it inside. Be more assertive. Deal with problems head on. Just ignoring something because you don’t feel like dealing with it is only going to cause stress and frustration. Try to manage your time better. Realize there are only so many things you can do in one day. Just doing this will lower your stress levels drastically.

Accepting things you cannot change is another way of coping with stress. Look for the positive is all situations. Reflect on what has happened and move on. Learning to forgive is another way of coping with stress. Holding grudges and not accepting fault in any situation will induce stress in your life. Let it go! Life is short, forgiveness is a key to life. Lastly when coping with stress look at the stressor itself. If you can’t change the cause of the stress, than change yourself. Make adjustments to your standards. Stop setting yourself up for failure and the stress in your life will decrease. Coping with stress is something you can do and it will help enhance your quality of life more than you ever thought possible and a therapist can help.
